The severe storms continue to sweep across the Midwest, triggering numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings along their path. The storms are bringing hurricane-force winds, with gusts of 70-90 mph recorded across northern Illinois and a report of a 75 mph gust at Chicago O'Hare.

The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Cook County, including downtown Chicago, around 9:15 p.m. The warned storm had a history of producing radar-indicated tornadoes as it moved through the suburbs.

As the storm advanced eastward, a tornado was sighted at Chicago O'Hare Airport, and the NWS Chicago reported power flashes at Chicago Midway Airport, possibly due to a tornado.

The SPC placed nearly 11 million people across southern Wisconsin, eastern Iowa, and northern Illinois, including Chicago, under a Level 4 out of 5 risk on its severe thunderstorm risk scale.

A broader area of the Midwest, affecting over 40 million people, was also under severe weather threat.
