Georgia Braces for Dangerous Flash Flood Threat Through Early Saturday

In addition to the severe weather threat across the South, the FOX Forecast Center is tracking a flash flood event that could pose additional risks in Georgia and Alabama into early Saturday.

The highest flood risk area includes parts of Central Georgia, which already saw significant rainfall earlier this week, with 2-3 inches falling on Tuesday night.

"This week has been exhausting for the Southeast," FOX Weather Meteorologist Jane Minar said. "You get a brief respite at the start of Friday, only to be hit again with heavy rain."

The FOX Forecast Center reported that strong low-level winds will bring substantial moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, enabling the storms to produce torrential rain at rates exceeding 1 inch per hour. The slow-moving or stationary front will act as a focal point, causing storms to develop and repeatedly move over the same areas.

As these storms move eastward, the continuous development of new storms will create a narrow band of intense rainfall, with precipitation potentially exceeding 4 inches. The threat is exacerbated by the fact that the heaviest rain is expected overnight, making it difficult to see flooded roads.
